Day 1 — Fri Feb 19

MorningDepart SC from CLT, GSP, or ATL toward Kona International Airport. Expect at least one mainland connection.
ArrivalLand at KOA, pick up rental cars, and head to the Airbnb.
EveningGrocery run, simple dinner, organize snorkel/hiking gear, and get to bed early.
Arrival day rule: no paid tours and no water commitments. This day is for logistics.
Day 2 — Sat Feb 20
Whale Watch + Manta Ray Night Snorkel

Two top-priority ocean experiences

7:00 AMMorning whale watch from Kona Harbor. February is peak humpback season.
MiddayRest, lunch, light beach time if energy allows.
EveningManta ray night snorkel from Keauhou Bay, usually around 7–9 PM.
Book these first. These are the most schedule-sensitive tours for a group of six.
Day 3 — Sun Feb 21
Coffee Farm + South Point + Punaluʻu

Coffee country · southernmost point · black sand beach

MorningCoffee/tea farm in Holualoa or Captain Cook area.
MiddayDrive to South Point. Windy cliffs, dramatic ocean, optional cliff jump for those comfortable.
AfternoonPunaluʻu Black Sand Beach for turtle viewing and a short beach walk.
Optional add-on: Papakōlea Green Sand Beach is a significant walk from the South Point area. Only add it if the group has energy and daylight.
Day 4 — Mon Feb 22
Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park

Dedicated full day for the park

7:30 AMDepart Kona/Waikoloa toward Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park.
MorningKīlauea Iki crater hike and Nāhuku lava tube.
AfternoonOverlooks, steam vents, and Chain of Craters Road to the coast.
EveningDinner in Volcano Village or Hilo, then return to base.
Bring: water, snacks, layers, rain shell, and closed-toe shoes.
Day 5 — Tue Feb 23
Slow Morning + Mauna Kea Stargazing

~2 PMTour pickup for Mauna Kea summit/sunset/stargazing experience.
EveningSunset above the clouds and guided stargazing. Return late.
Altitude note: hydrate, avoid heavy meals and alcohol beforehand, and use an operator with a clear weather/reschedule policy.
Day 6 — Wed Feb 24
North Island + Hāmākua Coast

Waipiʻo Lookout · Waimea · waterfalls · coast

MorningDrive north toward Waimea and Waipiʻo Valley Lookout.
MiddayWaipiʻo Lookout and Honokaʻa. Treat valley-floor access as restricted unless local rules clearly allow entry at the time of travel.
AfternoonAkaka Falls, Laupāhoehoe Point, or scenic Hāmākua Coast stops based on timing.
Access note: do not assume the Waipiʻo Valley road is open to visitors or pedestrians. The lookout is the safe default plan.
Day 7 — Thu Feb 25
Flex Snorkel Day

Two-Step · Kealakekua · backup day

Option BKealakekua Bay kayak or boat snorkel.
Option CRebook anything impacted by weather earlier in the trip.
Purpose: this is intentionally flexible so the trip can absorb weather, fatigue, or changed tour times.
Day 8 — Fri Feb 26
Depart Kona

Pack · car return · overnight flight east

AfternoonDepart KOA. Eastbound travel likely arrives home on Feb 27.
